After a lot of confusion and debates, the Asia Cup is finally happening. All the issues have been sorted out, and the tournament is now officially scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Fans can now look forward to an exciting cricket competition without any more delays or drama.
Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), shared the news on Saturday (July 26). He said, “I’m happy to announce that the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28. It’s a big and important tournament, and we’re expecting some great cricket action. The full schedule will be shared soon.” Naqvi is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
India and Pakistan have been placed in the same Group A for the Asia Cup 2025. This means the two teams could face each other up to three times in the tournament.

Their first match is set for September 14 during the group stage.
If both teams move on to the Super 4 stage, they will meet again on September 21.
And if both reach the final, fans could see a third exciting clash on September 28.
After a recent Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dhaka — which faced some controversy due to political tensions between Pakistan and Bangladesh — it was clear that the Asia Cup announcement would come soon. However, the official confirmation took some time because the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), which is the official host, had to finalize some business and sponsorship matters with its partners.
Approval from the Government was very important, and it seems it has now been given. There were concerns about whether permission would be granted at all because of the strong anti-Pakistan feelings in the country. This tension came after a recent military clash between India and Pakistan, when India launched Operation Sindoor in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The Indian government seems to have changed its view on playing sports with Pakistan. Recently, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya suggested that India is okay with facing Pakistan in international tournaments that include many countries, even if they don’t play direct (bilateral) series with them. Since India wants to host the 2036 Olympics, being open to international sports events is seen as important

The complete schedule was shared on Saturday evening. The tournament will have eight teams, divided into two groups. Group A includes India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. Group B has Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. A total of 19 matches will be played, with the final taking place on the last Sunday of the month. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) hasn’t confirmed the match venues yet, but Dubai and Abu Dhabi are expected to host the games.
The tournament will begin with the first match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong. On September 15, two matches will be played — the only day with a double header in the entire event. There will be two rest days during the tournament: one on September 22 and another on September 27. As expected, the tournament will follow the Twenty20 (T20) format, especially since it’s being held just before next year’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka.
